California Health Insurance Assistance Program Awarded 2009 Grant Funding, Says MedicareSupplementPlans.com

In an effort to assist California Medicare beneficiaries to obtain better, more comprehensive information about their health care choices, approximately $ 3 million in grant funds is being distributed to California State Health Assistance Programs (SHIPs) says MedicareSupplementPlans.com.

The 54 “SHIPs” provide Medicare beneficiaries nationwide with local, personalized assistance on a wide variety of Medicare and health insurance topics. The funds being distributed are part of a $ 35.8 million grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

“These funds support programs that help to provide information to people where they live,” says Alan Weinstock, an insurance broker for http://www.MedicareSupplementPlans.com. “We provide similar information that also assists seniors with Medicare supplement insurance options.”

Of http://www.MedicareSupplementPlans.com, Walter Lachman, 81, of Laguna Nigel, Calif., a longtime customer, says, “From the initial purchase of our health policy, through the many changes that needed to be made because of changing needs and changing legislation—you have advised us. This advice was not based on what your or your company’s needs were; you always put our welfare first.”

The grants to California SHIPs are part of the first installment of new funding that began April 1, 2009, and will end March 31, 2010. An additional $ 1.5 million in performance-based funding is expected to be awarded in September.

For seniors, finding an affordable Medicare supplement insurance plan that offers the best benefits for the lowest cost can take time to research. Finding a trustworthy source for this information can make the process easier.
